Alexandra Adamopoulos served as an Office of Sustainability Eco Rep
from fall 2018 until her graduation in fall 2019. Working as an Eco Rep, she was able
to touch base on almost every
UN [United Nations]
Sustainability Development Goal and work with the University toward better advance
sustainability. Her diligent contribution to gathering data propelled UT Dallas’s 2019
AASHE [Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education]
STARS [Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System]
ranking to Gold!
Hailey Helia Alaghemand (left) has been involved in multiple
sustainability-focused student organizations in her time at UT Dallas, including
Society of Sustainable Business and Environmental Conservation Organization, serving as
President of the latter. During her term, she organized events, meetings, on- and off-campus
activities, and organized a plastic ban petition to reduce single-use plastics at
UT Dallas. To date, the petition has gathered over 800 signatures.
Amanda Feller (center) worked with Society of Sustainable
Business and visited Ethiopia for one month to implement a sustainability project.
Amanda and her colleagues worked to empower women starting a business to bridge the
gender gap and achieve financial independence. The business will dehydrate fruit to
preserve the life of the fruit, which contributes to
UN SDGs [United Nations Sustainability Development Goals]
Zero Hunger, No Poverty, and Reduced Inequalities.
Reethika Gade has served as an Office of Student Volunteerism
Student Leader since spring 2019. During her service, she was able to organize and
lead various environmental service opportunities. Some of these projects include
building houses for those experiencing homelessness, disaster relief efforts, community
garden, and upcycling events.
Sara Hartke worked with Asociación de Amigos de la Patagonia
to aid education programs related to responsible consumption and production. She wrote
reports for green certifications that will help promote sustainable cities throughout
Buenos Aires.
M. Broderick Johnson (right) served an internship in the
Office of the Curator within the United States Supreme Court in fall 2018. The mission
of the office is to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the nation’s
highest court. The Office shares the history, judicial process, and role of the Court
with a diverse audience. Broderick also contributed service toward a wide variety of
other projects, accumulating an incredible total of 615 hours of service.
Megan Khong (center) served as a volunteer for the Allan
Saxe Dental Clinic, which services low-income patients at little to no cost for their
dental treatments. She and other volunteers helped with dental assisting, sterilizing
equipment, and filing patient information. This service contribute to
UN SDG [United Nations Sustainability Development Goal]
3: Good Health and Well-Being.
Veronica Lugtu served as an Office of Student Volunteerism Student
Leader from spring 2019 to spring 2020. Being an
OSV [Office of Student Volunteerism]
Student Leader encompasses an array of missions in connecting with local community
partners to volunteers, educating students, and empowering them to become active citizens
to make the world a more just place. Veronica has also served on two Alternative Spring
Break trips.
Sarina Mak served in a variety of student organizations, such as
Animal Rights Club, which she co-founded, and Environmental Conservation Organization,
where served as Vice President. Sarina also dedicated a week to Alternative Spring Break,
where she helped a nonprofit take care of abused, surrendered, and neglected animals.
Samantha Manuel served as an Office of Sustainability Eco Rep from
spring 2017 to fall 2018. During her time at the Office, she helped design the
Sustainable Labs Program, an effective sustainability initiative for the chemistry,
biology, biochemistry, etc. labs on campus.
Katie Slaughter (right) worked with Society of Sustainable

Gabrielle Vragel researched a pathogen that has increasing antibiotic
resistance in the US and beyond. This is crucial for the health of the global population.
Addressing this issue is important to slow the rise of resistance. Gabrielle also spent
time volunteering for Campus Cleanups, the
OSV [Office of Student Volunteerism]
Community Garden, and other sustainability initiatives.
Sandra Mihail contributed service to a variety of organizations,
including serving as a conservation volunteer, translator at a free clinic, working in
sustainable landscaping, and making food recovery network runs.
