Are you passionate about building a more sustainable world? Sustainability Honors recognizes graduating students who went above and beyond to engage with and learn more about sustainability during their time at UTD. Students are recognized for their participation in a variety of engagements, including coursework, volunteering, leadership, internships, and more!

In summer 2024, Sustainability Honors replaced the previous Sustainability Service Honors Program.

Graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to participate in this program. Participants may log events from before their registration in the program as long as they were enrolled at UT Dallas in their current degree program when they completed the points. For example, transfer students cannot log points from their previous institutions, and graduate students cannot log hours from their previous undergraduate or graduate degrees, even if completed at UT Dallas.

Achievement of Sustainability Honors will allow students to —

  • Receive sustainability graduation regalia
  • Be spotlighted through website recognition

Eligibility

Students need to accrue 15 points from the following list of engagements to graduate with this honor and document them by November 1 if graduating in the fall semester, and by April 1 if graduating in the spring.

When documenting your engagements, you will need to provide a form of verification. Verification can range from a photo at the event, evidence of course completion, and more, subject to the nature of the event.

Sustainability (i.e., in a sustainability class or sustainability internship) is generally defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” The awarding of points for an activity is ultimately at the discretion of the Office of Sustainability approver.

All previous Sustainability Service Honors participants will be transitioned automatically to the new system. Those who have logged at least 15 service hours under Sustainability Service Honors will automatically receive Sustainability Honors. Those who have not yet earned 15 service hours will earn one point per service hour and can continue to pursue additional points under the new requirements.

For questions or concerns about this transition, please contact sustainability@utdallas.edu.
