Bee Campus USA: Pollinator Survey

As a certified Bee Campus USA, UT Dallas is committed to creating a thriving habitat for pollinators and promoting biodiversity on our campus. We want your input! We’re collecting feedback to help guide future pollinator-friendly initiatives at UTD. Whether it’s expanding native plant gardens, hosting educational events, or creating new conservation programs, your ideas and suggestions will help shape the future initiatives. Take a moment to complete the survey and share ideas for a more pollinator-friendly campus.

Save the Date! Earth Week 2025

Mark your calendar for Earth Week 2025! UT Dallas is celebrating the 14th annual Earth Week on April 21-25. The Office of Sustainability and Office of Student Volunteerism are planning many exciting events including Earth Fair, Interstellar movie screening, wildlife and pollinator events, garden workshops, and more. This year’s theme is “Wildlife” to celebrate all our furry, feathered, scaly, and shelled neighbors. If your organization, department, or business would like to join UTD’s Earth Week, register to table at Earth Fair. Stay tuned for a detailed schedule of events.

Lights Out, Texas & Birdwatching

This year from March 1 to June 15, the spring migration of birds flying across Texas will occur with peak migration between April 22 to May 12. Billions of birds fly over Texas each year during migration and distracting lights lead to migratory bird loss. To reduce migratory bird mortality, the Lights Out, Texas! campaign urges everyone to turn off non-essential lights at night from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during critical migration periods.

On March 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., join us for a bird walk led by the Trinity River Audubon Center to experience and learn about birds on campus. Registration required.

Spring Cleaning? Donate Spare T-Shirts

If you or your office has spare t-shirts, including unwanted t-shirts from previous events, please consider giving them to the Basic Needs Resource Center! Student volunteers use spare t-shirts to make reusable tote bags to benefit the Comet Cupboard and for other upcycling/creative reuse effort for Temoc’s Closet. Please contact basicneeds@utdallas.edu to arrange a drop-off.

Sustainability in Operations Highlight

Each month, we highlight sustainable features of campus operations
including energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management,
and green building practices.

The Landscaping and Grounds department manages and maintains the campus landscape ensuring a thriving and sustainable outdoor environment for visitors, students, faculty, and staff. As an ArbNet-accredited Level I Arboretum and recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree Campus Higher Education, UT Dallas is home to over 7,000 trees maintained by the Landscaping and Grounds team. Each year, Grounds partners with the Office of Sustainability to host Arbor Day, where the campus community can participate in tree-related service projects and educational outreach on campus. Not only do these trees make our campus beautiful, but they provide vital benefits to support local wildlife, enhance biodiversity, and improve air quality.
