Happy Texas Arbor Day!

A group of UT Dallas Eco Reps and landscape workers hold up a “Tree Campus Higher Education” banner.

Arbor Day Tree Planting

Texas Arbor Day, established in 2013, is celebrated on the first Friday of each November. Texas trees are planted in fall, as opposed to national Arbor Day in April, since temperature and rainfall conditions in Texas are not suitable for young trees at that time. Join us on November 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Eco Hub to plant five fruit trees at the Luna Farm orchard.

UT Dallas Renewed as a Bronze-rated Bicycle Friendly University

The Office of Sustainability is proud to announce that UTD has renewed as a Bronze-rated Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists for 2024-2028. This designation recognizes the University’s ongoing commitment to providing safe and sustainable biking options for the campus community. UT Dallas continues to enhance its bicycle infrastructure and support programs, fostering an eco-friendly campus culture and promoting active transportation.

Wildflower Planting & Expanding Pollinator Habitat

This November, the Office of Sustainability in collaboration with Grounds will be establishing and reseeding approximately five additional acres of pollinator habitat and wildflower no-mow zones. We need your help to sow wildflower seeds at the field south of the new Lot M parking on November 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Register to support campus biodiversity and pollinator habitat!

Lights Out, Texas & Bird Strike Survey

Each fall, approximately 1 of every 4 birds migrating through the U.S., or nearly two billion birds, passes through Texas. During this great migration, the majority of birds travel at night and lights emanating from cities can disorient birds with between one hundred million and one billion birds dying each year in collisions with manmade structures. Currently, we are gathering data of any bird strikes on campus to better understand any impact of campus buildings. If you observe any bird strikes, please submit photos and location information through the Bird Strike Survey.
