Help Name the Microfarm!

Since 2021, the Eco Hub has been a hotspot for sustainability education, programming, and action through the growing and distribution of fresh, sustainable foods. In the last two years, a number of changes have happened at the Eco Hub, including the addition of an apiary, living laboratory soil sensors, and discussion of agrivoltaic research opportunities on the site. To distinguish the microfarm as a separate entity at the Eco Hub, help us name the farm! We hope to highlight the sustainable agriculture operation with a homage to campus culture. Submit your ideas by February 29.

Welcome to the Team, Eco Reps!

We have concluded our hiring process for our Spring 2024 Eco Reps. Eco Reps are compensated student leaders that implement sustainability programs at UT Dallas. Please welcome Gargi Kanugo (left), who is joining our office to co-lead sustainable agriculture at the Eco Hub, and Seher Hasan (right), joining the office as the Zero Waste Eco Rep. We are excited to bring these talented students to our team and can’t wait to see how they make campus more sustainable!

Growth at the Eco Hub

The microfarm at the Eco Hub has been busy! During 2023 school year, over 50 pounds of produce were grown for donation to the Comet Cupboard. Along with the new greenhouse, we are excited to continue expanding with the addition of an orchard with peach, plum, fig, persimmon, and pecan trees being planted to provide fruit in the coming years. Help us continue to grow and join us for Saturday Eco Hub workdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. this semester!

Urban Bike and Hike Trail in Dallas

Calling all cyclists! Have you heard about the LOOP? A 50-mile city-wide urban trail was completed recently connecting north, south, east and west Dallas in new, exciting ways. The trail “looped” 39 miles of existing trails with 11 miles of newly built trails for a total of 50 miles of walk and bike trails. This urban trail will revitalize communities, connect neighbors to stunning lakefront views, amazing foodie finds, tranquil forests, farms for good and more.
